LAUNCHING: Outdoor Safety & Culture Survey 2026
We spend a lot of time talking about outdoor safety, but we don’t always acknowledge the experiences that can make people feel unsafe long after they’ve left the trail, river, campground, or climbing area.
Sex Outside is conducting our first Outdoor Safety & Culture Survey: an anonymous survey exploring people’s experiences with sexual harassment, gender-based violence, unwanted sexual behavior, and safety in outdoor recreation and the outdoor industry.
Whether you’ve experienced something yourself, witnessed it happen to someone else, or have thoughts about what outdoor organizations could do better, your perspective matters.
With an immense lack of research on this specific topic, surveys like this are an important way to continue to contribute to the way culture evolves within your own outdoor community.
The survey takes approximately 10–15 minutes, and you can skip any question you don’t want to answer.
The findings will be shared in aggregate as part of our work on sexual harassment and assault in outdoor recreation, including presenting to outdoor leaders, and may also contribute to future educational and advocacy work around creating safer, more inclusive outdoor spaces.
This survey will be open until October 1, 2026. Thank you for your participation and for sharing with others!
